Geocache Description:

Brevard County, Florida was founded in 1844. It's history, both pre-Columbian and modern day is rich in mystery and adventure. Continuing the idea that began with Annie (GC659GV) this series is designed to celebrate some of those...Legends of Brevard.

The indigenous people of this area were known as the Ais Tribe. The Ais are thought to have inhabited two locations in this area with their primary village south of current day Sebastian. The known Brevard sites were:

1. Between modern day Gleason Park and the confluence of the Eau Gallie and the Indian Rivers in the winter and

2. Current day Ballard Park area in the summer.

The Ais lived and flourished for over three millennia in relative peace, with artifacts being dated between 2000 BC and 1700 AD.
