[IT] La Laguna di Venezia è la laguna più estesa del mar Mediterraneo, con una superficie di circa 550 km⊃2;. È collegata al mare da tre bocche di porto: Lido-San Nicolò, Malamocco e Chioggia. Dal 1987 l'intero territorio è stato inserito nella lista del patrimonio mondiale dell'umanità dall'UNESCO.
In questo parco potete sedervi per riposare un po’ e godervi del panorama lagunare. In lontananza sulla sinistra si può ammirare il Lido di Venezia, e tre isole in ordine da sinistra:
- Santa Maria della Grazia: isola artificiale di circa quattro ettari di superficie; sorse nel Medioevo per l'abitudine di scaricare nell'area i detriti di Venezia.
- San Clemente: si estende su una superficie di 6,74 ettari; fin dal 1100 ospita una chiesa con annesso un ospitale per pellegrini e soldati in attesa di imbarcarsi verso la Terra Santa, nel corso dei secoli XV e XVI diventa luogo di accoglienza degli ospiti illustri di Venezia, che raggiungevano poi la città a bordo del Bucintoro e dal 1973 fino al 1992 ospita il Manicomio Centrale Femminile Veneto. Ad oggi è sede di un hotel di lusso.
- Sacca Sessola: è fra le isole artificiali più grandi (16,03 ettari) e più giovani della Laguna. Creata nel 1870 con il materiale degli scavi per il porto commerciale di Santa Marta, il nome deriva dal fatto che assunse una forma simile a quella di uno strumento tipico veneziano per eliminare l'acqua dalle barche. Fin dal 1875 fu sede di un ospedale per malattie contagiose endemiche, soprattutto polmonari. L’attività ospedaliera cessa nel 1979 causando un lento processo di abbandono e di degrado. Dalla fine degli anni ’90 viene aperto un albergo di lusso.
[ENG] The Venice Lagoon is the largest lagoon in the Mediterranean Sea, with an area of approximately 550 km⊃2;. It is connected to the sea by three inlets: Lido-San Nicolò, Malamocco and Chioggia. Since 1987 the entire territory has been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In this park you can sit down to rest for a while and enjoy the lagoon view. In the distance on the left you can admire the Lido of Venice, and three islands in order from the left:
- Santa Maria della Grazia: artificial island of about four hectares; it arose in the Middle Ages due to the habit of dumping the debris of Venice in the area.
- San Clemente: covers an area of 6.74 hectares; since 1100 it has housed a church with an adjoining hospital for pilgrims and soldiers waiting to embark for the Holy Land, during the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries it became a place of welcome for illustrious guests of Venice, who then reached the city aboard the Bucintoro and from 1973 until 1992 it housed the Central Female Asylum of Veneto. Today it is home to a luxury hotel.
- Sacca Sessola: it is one of the largest (16.03 hectares) and youngest artificial islands in the lagoon. Created in 1870 with the material of the excavations for the commercial port of Santa Marta, the name derives from the fact that it assumed a shape similar to that of a typical Venetian tool to remove water from boats. Since 1875 it was the seat of a hospital for endemic contagious diseases, especially pulmonary. Hospital activity ceased in 1979 causing a slow process of abandonment and decay. A luxury hotel has been opened since the late 1990s.
