Historic Zion Hotel Dome
circa 1905 (BBDM)
In 1902 Dowie had this hotel *the Elijah Hospice" built to house the workers who would build the City of Zion. It took 500 workers two months to build the three story building, which at the time was the largest wood structure in the state of IL. Over the years it fell into disrepair and eventually had to be torn down. The citizen's of Zion raised enough money ($20,000) to save the dome that marks the original location of the hotel.
