Water Facts: Adams Park

There's always been water at Adams Park, but until recently, it's been hidden underground and out of sight in a nearly seven foot pipe to hold the volume.  Unfortunately, so much storm water was rushing downstream causing run-off and sewage to end up in Omaha's rivers and streams over 50 times per year!  Thanks to the Clean Solutions for Omaha (CSO) Program to seperate sewage and storm water, Adam's Park wetlands was created to hold water, preventing it from getting into the sewer systems.  The wetland can hold over 70 acre feet, roughly 25 million gallons of water!  The wetland also helps slow the flow of water as well as create ideal conditions for wetland plants and animals.  The wetlands cover approximately 14 acres, not only creating water quality benefits but hopefully also acts as a catalyst for urban growth and revitalization.

Adams Park also has a rich history, dating back to 1910.  For more historical background on how Adams Park took shape, check out this interesting link.
