Can you hear a bell? No, there hasn't been one for years. Many years ... This old abandoned building is the St. Mary's Church, Downsmill, also called 'Woodlands Church'.
There are many stories about this church which are as little confirmed as the year in which it was built. But the plain construction and the bell tower on the west gable indicate that it was built in the 16th century. In 1906, the church ruins were last repaired by the Board of Works.
Please enter the property carefully and do not leave any litter behind.
