I've been visiting Potters Ponds since I was 12 years old and it has always been a special place for me. When I started geocaching, it just became that much more special. As far back as I can remember, I've always felt that the little grove of quakies up on the mountain ridgeline looked like palm trees. Of course, they aren't, but that's how I've always seen them.
A couple years back, I decided to hike up to them just for the experience and thoroughly enjoyed it. My only regret was that I didn’t bring a container so I could share the experience with other geocachers. Well, in July of 2021, I brough a group of young men up here for a 3 day camping and fishing trip and we made the same hike again, but this time I came prepared.
I hope you enjoy the hike, views and the experiences you have at Potters Ponds as much as I have over the years.
Getting there… There’s no “Established” trail to get there. Both times I’ve made the climb, I started at the Potters cache and just headed uphill. I came down the ridgeline the first time and it was around 3.4 miles round trip. The second time, the boys were done and just wanted off the mountain as fast as possible, so we came straight down, which reduced the trip to 2.8 miles. Both times I went up, I encountered quite a few cool inscriptions in trees. Hopefully you’ll see them too.
