“Adventure Galley” - Capt William Kidd's ship
The “Adventure Galley” was one of the most feared ships during the Golden Age of Piracy. She was a 284-ton vessel with 34 guns, captained by the Scottish sailor William Kidd. She was launched along the Thames River in 1695. With three masts and 23 oars, she could move even when there was no wind. She was originally meant to be a pirate hunting ship in the Indian Ocean, but when that proved difficult for Kidd, she became a pirate ship. After 3 years her hull became rotten and the “Adventure Galley” was abandoned off the coast of Madagascar in 1698.

Rend Lake is accessible year round. Some areas of the recreation area can be gated so you would have to park and walk to some caches. This is a USACE cache and is placed on property owned and managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, St. Louis District.
