Fall Mystic Lake CITO Cache In Trash Out® Event

This cache has been archived.

CuriousKDB: A note from the Mystic River watershed: Please extend a big "thank you" to the whole group--as they are doing so much to keep trash from our lakes, rivers and the ocean. It is much appreciated!

A note from me: Thank you so much for attending and filling the barrels with trash - it would be nice if people could get it there themselves though. All TBs have been claimed - thanks for being prompt.

Some quotes for our trash collectors:
We need to be better to Mother Earth!

Focused on a small area of shoreline, and was met with a never-ending supply of micro plastics and compressed foam bits

I collected 4 bags of trash, mostly composed of discarded alcoholic beverage bottles and plastics. Along with that, I removed two heaping armfuls of rusted metal scraps. New life experience.

Fun event, boyfriend and I enjoyed the stroll, picked up a lot of bottles and trash.

Much of the trash seemed to be in the more inaccessible places (dense vegetation with thorns); I picked up some of the easy trash and made a bit of progress with trash in the thorny areas.

always good to attend a geo event, and this one moved some trash to the barrels, In case you lost 2 dirty dippers, 6 empty bottles of beer, 5 pet toys and a number of baggy s with dog waste, I found them, you can pick them up in the barrel at the playground.

Until next time - a big thanks to you all - CuriousKDB

Geocache Description:

03 October 2021, 16:00 - 17:00

Come join me along the Upper Mystic Lake to clean up trash along the shoreline.  There are many spots to socially distance along the upper lake and pick up trash.  Trash will be located between the shoreline and Mystic Valley Parkway- you will see many “desire lines” where people have made their way to the shoreline.

The CITO event runs from 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm. There should be plenty of parking

The event will comply with the Massachusetts COVID-19 requirements which I will update as we get closer:

  1. Face coverings must be worn
  2. Must maintain a distance of six feet or more from others at all times
  3. Contact tracing (your name and phone number will be gathered at the event)

Event announcements will be made if the COVID-19 requirements change.

Please bring with you:

  • Mask
  • Bags
  • Gloves
  • Grabber

All attendees will earn their CITO fall souvenir and be eligible to log the Let's Improve the Outdoors - Locationless cache if you haven't already completed it

This cleanup is part of the Mystic River Watershed Association Self Guided Cleanups.  This area is one of the areas they are targeting to ensure trash doesn't make it's way down to the ocean.  "By removing litter from parks and paths you are reducing the amount of trash that ends up in the water (think: saving ducks, turtles, whales from eating or getting caught in trash!)"
