Where am I?
St Nicks (or St Nicholas Fields) is a peaceful enclave and hidden gem in the suburbs to the east of York. In its varied past it's been a hospital and clay pit which produced bricks used in the construction of many local houses.
More recently it was a rubbish tip, which explains the proliferation of apple and pear trees which have grown from fruit cores and pips thrown away by local residents. In 2004 it became a Local Nature Reserve.
Why am I here?
We discovered this secluded little dell during lockdown and visited regularly, as it's easy to forget you're in a city here.
A great spot for a picnic, exploring, or to stickoflage an entire child (or adult, if you're persistent enough).
