Geocache Description:

West Fork Kayak Series (Part 1)

Cache Specific Information:

Well, you knew if KilllerBee got a kayak this would happen... Most of the traditional cache containers in this series are bison or other plastic tubes located along the shoreline of the West Fork River. Please make sure all lids are closed properly to ensure the caches are in good condition for the next cacher. Due to the size of these containers you will need to bring your own pen. Most sites are ONLY accessible by kayak as many border private property. If river levels are above 5 ft this cache maybe underwater and not available.

Kayaking & West Fork River Information:

Most of the journey down this small river will be slow moving water but unlike the Monongahela there are several portions (4-5) that have a brief section of faster shallower water that may be tougher for beginners. A beginner myself, I braved the journey and only got a little wet by a splash of water over the edge of my kayak. What was worse, was the low portions... twice I was stuck in 6-8 inches of water and had to "shimmy" and push-paddle to get along. (As a reference the level at Enterprise should be above 2.0 feet for a better trip. See link below)

WATER LEVEL LINK

This is part 1 of the trip that extends from the Dam at Worthington and ends at the park at Monongah. Part 1 consists of 6 caches that are placed between Worthington and the Everson Street Bridge. The “take out” area of Monongah is a shallow area and small grassy knoll directly across the street from parking that can take a few cars for loading of kayaks. By the way for those who are adventurous, the rail trail runs from Monongah back to Worthington and may be biked (or hiked) back the 4 miles to your vehicle.
