The CHamoru name for this wild plumeria is guåsale' (pronounced "GUAH sa li" where the capitalized letters of the first syllable is the stressed syllable). The blossoms of this flower is smaller than the regular plumeria that has a fragrant scent while the guåsale' is unscented. It grows in abundance on rocky cliffsides and talk has been circulating in recent times that it will be presented for legislative enactment to declare it as the national flower for the island, replacing the bougainvillea. It has been cultivated and graces many yards of private homes around the island.
