Geocache Description:

!!THIS IS A LOW CELL SERVICE AREA. FOR THAT REASON, DIRECTIONS ON HOW TO FIND THE CACHE ARE BELOW. IT IS RECOMMENDED TO DOWNLOAD THE CACHE AND THE INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE VISITING!!

FISH CREEK FALLS

Fish Creek Falls plummets 210 feet over scoured rock. This photo was taken in very low water volume (Oct. 2021).

Fish Creek Falls is one of those iconic waterfalls that comes up when you google "Best Waterfalls in Colorado" (no, really, it's one of the first ones to show up on google). Practically everyone knows about it. It is prominently marked on maps, easily accessible, and absolutely a must-stop if you are in Steamboat Springs for a visit. I don't usually cover the more well known waterfalls in this series, but Fish Creek is utterly spectacular. While this cache will not take you to a viewpoint of the falls, because of the abnormally high foot traffic on the trails that take you around Fish Creek, it will take you to an amazing viewpoint that lets you see Steamboat, the ski resort, and beyond to Wyoming.

The waterfall itself is a 210 foot tall plummet that has been carved by glaciers. Fish Creek has another waterfall further up, Upper Fish Creek Falls, and there's a cache there too! While not as impressive, I personally think it's better than the main one because of how few people make it that far. You can find it here.

Feel free to explore the overlook and other trails that allow you to see the falls in its entirety. Remember to obey park regulations and have your parking fee paid!

Here's how to find this geocache:

HOW TO FIND:

From the parking area, work your way down the road a bit to an unmarked trail.

Look for this trail through the trees. Take it up the hillside.

After a short walk, you'll emerge to this rocky/grassy area. Go to the small tree pictured, the cache is nearby.

The cache! Like I said, you can't see the falls from here like with the other caches in this series. However, the views are still great! You can even hear the falls' roar in the distance. Have fun!

This is one of the CO Waterfall Series caches, inspired by worldwaterfalldatabase.com and Marc Conly, author of Waterfalls of Colorado. Other caches in this series can be found here!
