HATTFELL aneb Hospoda Na mýtince III Traditional Cache

HATTFELL or also Stórkonufell

Wellcome to the top with great panoramatic view over the Rangárþing og Mýrdalur. Majestic Hattfell is 924 m high and is it one of fascinatin dominants on the Emstur area which is so nice with his typical green, black and white colours (whose carriers they are moss, sand and rocks, glacier). This landscape and hill know many hikers on the famous Icelandic trek Laugavegur from Landmannalaugat to Thósmork. If you like this area, I can recomand you visit the beautiful natural gem Markarfljótsgljúfur Canyon too. If you go by car from SW side the nearest Markarfljót river crossing point trough this canyon is bridge on the road F261 near Emstruskáli tourist hut, where is possible to accommodate or only few km SE from the mountalin is campsite and tourist hut Bótnar (on the Laugavegur trail).

Enjoy your hike and ravishing breaktable 360° outlook :o). On the NW site you can see Mt. Hekla, on NE Alftavatn lake. Spectaculous are the views to parts of Mýrdarsjókull glacial slides on East side and over Markarfljót walley to the Eyjafjalljókull on the SW side. The view from the top is really worth this ;-).

About cache

The easiest way to reach the top is from NE site little bit on the right site from the slope notch or on the North East ridge. This two ways goes most way on grassy slope and is it easy hike for aproximatelly 45 min to the top with elevation only abou 480 m. Next but little bit even more adventurous option is from the west side from nearest Icelandic tourist hut. Easilly accesible and available is this hike for Laugavegur hikers too! Here is only very easy shallow stream crossing near the hike path. It is not need to undress shoes and to the starting point Nr 1 is it only 5-7 min.
