Geocache Description:

Avon Valley Panorama Walk

The Avon Valley Panorama Walk, boasting spectacular views overlooking the Avon Gorge, was established in 1957 when Avon Valley Park first opened. Over the years the walk fell into disrepair and required urgent work to make the location accessible to visitors. Thanks to a £39k grant from Cory Environmental Trust in Britain (CETB), the walk was restored in 2017 to mark the 60th anniversary of the creation of Avon Valley Park and was officially unveiled by Cllr Ian Blair, chair of South Gloucestershire Council.

The grant from CETB funded the replacement of existing cliff top fencing, clearance works, new signage and access paths. In addition, a newly created seating area has established a focus point at the summit providing panoramic views over the valley.

Located within the Avon Valley Woodlands nature reserve, the Panorama Walk forms part of Avon Valley Park. The surrounding woodlands are home to a wide variety of wildlife and are an ideal location for people of all abilities to enjoy getting closer to nature.

The cache

The Panorama Walk is a circular walk that goes along the river in Conham River Park and involves climbing a serious amount of steps. I have not including the steps and the lower part of the walk in this multi. Conham River Park is covered in Bristol Parks 6 (GC9G44C). If you are fit enough and and have the time I do recommend doing the walk in it's entirety if you fancy a bit of a work out! Simply park in Conham River carpark rather than the suggested parking for this cache on Conham Hill.

There are a few lay-by parking spots at the parking Waypoint. If they are occupied I suggest parking a little bit further up Conham Hill.

Starting at posted co-ordinates:
How many steps are there down to the river according to the post? A
(if you can't locate add 10 to number of years mentioned on bench)
How many stone pillars are there? Some are a little overgrown. BC

Head up the hill to Waypoint 1 - top of the climb next to the entrance to the field:
A tree has absorbed some railings - how many railings? D

Head to Waypoint 2 - a stile entrance with a view
Which saint's church is visible on the hill? Saint E

Head to Waypoint 3 - a shady evergreen tree
Under the tree how many railings are missing? F

Continue to Waypoint 4 - the entrance to Hanham Athletic's football pitches and onto Waypoint 5 - the viewpoint
How many vertical posts on raised viewpoint? G
How many bins by the steps? H
How many steps down are there IJ

Have a seat at the viewpoint and calculate the final co-ordinates:
N51 26. (C+D-B) (G+H) (C-B)/E)
W02 31. (F-I) ((A/F)-B) (J-I)
