Hemofoobia on ebanormaalne hirm vere ees. Selle vägagi levinud foobia all kannatajad võivad karta nii enda kui teiste verd ja isegi pilte või videosid, kus on kujutatud verd. Õudust võìb tekitada ka paljas mõte verest. Hemofoobia all kannatajale võib veri meenutada nende haavatavust ja surelikkust.
Mõnedel hemofoobidel esineb tüüpiline foobia reaktsioon - vererõhu ja südame löögisageduse tõus. Teistel võib aga esineda hoopis vererõhu ja südame löögisageduse langus, mis omakorda põhjustab kahvatumist ja nõrkust, isegi minestamist. Sellistel inimestel võib hirm vere ees areneda edasi minestamise hirmuks. Sarnast reaktsiooni esineb ka trüpanofoobia ja traumatofoobia puhul. Seetõttu kategoriseeritakse neid kolme foobiat sageli koos vere-süsti-vigastuse foobiaks.
Hemofoobia on tihtipeale põhjustatud traumast (enamasti lapsepõlves), kuid oma osa arvatakse olevat ka pärilikkusel.

Hemophobia is an abnormal fear of blood. Sufferers of this very common phobia dread the sight of their own blood, the sight of the blood of others, and sometimes printed or filmed images of blood or even thoughts of blood. Blood may remind them of their own vulnerability to injury and of the eventuality of death.
Some sufferers of hemophobia experience a typical phobic reaction characterized by an increase in blood pressure and heart rate. Other sufferers experience an atypical phobic reaction characterized by a decrease in blood pressure and heart rate, causing paleness and weakness. They may even faint. Those with the latter reaction may develop a new fear: the fear of fainting. Similar reactions can also occur with trypanophobia and traumatophobia. For this reason, these phobias are categorized as blood-injection-injury phobia.
Blood phobia is often caused by a trauma (usually in childhood). But also a possible genetic link has been suggested.
