The historic West Side Theatre in Newman was built in 1940 and called 'a place of comfort, relaxation and brilliance'. After decades as a movie theatre, a brief stint as a roller-skating rink and later a dance club, in 1996 the West Side Theatre Foundation, in partnership with the City of Newman, began renovations to restore the Art Deco theatre to serve as a performing arts center. The theatre reopened in the Fall of 1996 and thanks to the hard work and dedication of our volunteers and members of the West Side Theatre Foundation, the theatre remains a successful performing arts center today.
