Oratorio Sant'Anna Traditional Geocache

ORATORIO DI SANT’ANNA

L’oratorio di S. Anna sorge al bivio tra Via S. Carlo e Via Cavour. Le origini di questo piccolo oratorio sono antiche; infatti esso risale alla fine del millequattrocento. Secondo la tradizione la chiesetta sarebbe stata eretta al bivio delle due strade che conducono in paese sul luogo dove si sarebbe arrestata l’epidemia di peste che dilagava in quel periodo. Attualmente l’edificio è di proprietà privata. La facciata a capanna è arricchita da un rosone centrale in cotto posto sopra la porta d’ingresso e da una inconsueta decorazione in finto cotto, ormai logorata dal tempo. Originariamente questa cappella doveva essere aperta mediante un grande arco a tutto sesto – che oggi è chiaramente distinguibile in seguito al distacco dell’intonaco – e che successivamente venne chiuso e dotato di una porta. Il fianco lungo la Via S. Carlo presenta una finestra trilobata incorniciata da fasce in cotto e ciò che rimane di una serie di archetti pensili anch’essi in terracotta.

Attualmente non ci si può entrare ma all’interno sopra l’Altare è rappresentata la Natività, a sinistra San Giuseppe ed a destra Maria in atto di adorazione verso il Bambino.

Sul lato destro dello sfondo è ben intuibile la capanna del presepe. Al di sopra di questo espressivo affresco è posta una nicchia nella quale è presente la statua del Bambino, chiusa da una cornice in legno policromo e contornata da decori e putti dipinti. Lateralmente all’affresco centrale sono raffigurati diversi santi, in parte ormai degradati, tra i quali S. Sebastiano, S. Rocco e S. Mamete. L’oratorio ha subito nel corso dei secoli delle modifiche. Queste venivano spesso richieste dai vescovi, che giungevano a Castelletto per compiervi le visite pastorali, per rendere i luoghi di culto conformi alle norme ecclesiastiche.

SANT'ANNA'S ORATORY

Sant'anna's oratory stands at the crossroads between Via S. Carlo and Via Cavour. The origins of this small oratory are ancient; in fact it dates back to the end of the fourteenth century. According to tradition, the church was erected at the crossroads of the two roads leading to the town on the place where the plague epidemic that was rampant at that time stopped. Currently the building is privately owned. The gabled façade is enriched by a central rose window in terracotta placed above the entrance door and by an unusual faux terracotta decoration, now worn out by time. Originally this chapel was to be opened by means of a large round arch - which today is clearly distinguishable following the detachment of the plaster - and which was subsequently closed and equipped with a door. The side along Via S. Carlo has a trefoil window framed by terracotta bands and what remains of a series of hanging arches also in terracotta.

Currently it is not possible to enter but inside above the altar the Nativity is represented, on the left Saint Joseph and on the right Mary in an act of adoration towards the Child.

On the right side of the background the nativity hut can be clearly seen. Above this expressive fresco there is a niche in which there is the statue of the Child, closed by a polychrome wooden frame and surrounded by painted decorations and cherubs. On the side of the central fresco, several saints are depicted, some of them now degraded, including S. Sebastiano, S. Rocco and S. Mamete. The oratory has undergone changes over the centuries. These were often requested by the bishops, who came to Castelletto to make pastoral visits, to make the places of worship conform to ecclesiastical norms.
