Geocache Description:

The Isle of Man TT or Tourist Trophy races are an annual motorcycle racing event run on the Isle of Man in May/June of most years (two world wars, Foot -and- Mouth Disease and Covid19 not withstanding) since its inaugural race in 1907. In 1935 George Formby won the T.T. but only just, it was a very close run thing with him running out of fuel yards from the finish leaving him to have to push his bike up to the Grandstand to take the win by mere seconds. Or so the film "No Limit" would have you beleive, he did have to push the bike to the finish line and George collapsing over the line in the final scene was real. It had something to do with the 15 takes and the hot weather.

Ballacraine Hotel, circe 1955. Picture kindly taken from and credited to - http://velobanjogent.blogspot.com/2015/01/alan-burta-motorcyclist-all-his.html

The Ballacraine Hotel (now a private residence and hopefully just across the road from your current location) featured in the film where one of the riders crashes into the bar. It is sometimes mistakenly said that this was George's character that did this but no. In reality it was a gentleman by the name Cyril Standen a member of the Peveril Motorcycle Club riding bike number 28 (not 14). For anyone familiar with the island the film is still worth a look as much of what you see in the film is still here and relatively unchanged (although you will also notice some changes too).

Now to the cache.

At the coordinates you will find a memorial plaque to one of the many dedicated volunteers who willing give their time up to marshal the T.T. each year to try and make what is said to be the most dangerous motorcycle race in the world a little bit safer for all involved. You will find a sequence of 10 numbers, record them in the order in which they appear. These are A to J and I'm pretty sure you know what to do.

N54° (A+B-C) . (H-I) (A+E+F)(C+E+F-J) W004° (B+D+G+H+I) . (E+J)(C-G)(ExF)

Once you're completed this little exercise they should take you straight to the cache. Please take care when approaching gz, this area can be extremely busy with vehicles of all sizes.

At certain times of the year you will not be able to approach the memorial plaque as it is within the confines of the T.T. Mountain Course circuit, however this is unlikely to be more than 8/9 hours at any one time and only when the roads are closed for practice and/or racing.

NOTICE

Warning to the public. Motor sport can be DANGEROUS.

Despite organisers taking all reasonable precautions, unavoidable incidents can happen.

Please comply with all instructions of marshals and notices and remain in the permitted areas only.

They are concerned with your safety.
