Geocache Description:

##  Stealth required if picnicers nearby.

Log find ONLY please. No trinkets/items.

First and foremost, apart from seeking this geocache, whether a day visit or extended days, you will most suredly enjoy Geehi and surrounding areas.

Hi, My name is Reg Morgan residing in Wodonga,Vic.

Located between Khancoban and Thredbo, Geehi Flats campground and picnic area is a perfect base for hiking, mountain biking, swimming, fishing, and 4WD adventures in southern Kosciuszko National Park.

Highly recommend the link at bottom of page for important and helpful information and also more specific geocache information.

You might like to read that before reaching Geehi as signal strength may be limited or non-existant.  Offline map for geocache also advised.

In my opinion, and for so many reasons, I highly rate these Campgrounds.

I owe many thanks to the following ladies for assisting me in relation to this geocache.

Fluer Urquhart, Marion Plum, Pauline Downing and, Sue at Jindabyne Tourist Information Centre who are all in some way associated with Kosciuszko National Park.

I shall point out that at time of cache placement, it will be the 2nd only geocache by road between Bringenbrong Bridge (State border NE of Khancoban) and Thredbo Alpine Village, a total of 92Km.

This Geocache has a twofold purpose.

1. In memory of Ian James Risk (Risky) our dear closest friend of 36 years who died suddenly on 13th October 2021 age 60.

2. To highlight what Geehi has to offer and its history as part of the Kosciuszko National Park.

Risky loved his back porch area (Pictured above) where he would constantly modify, experiment, or design camping cooking facilities.

His caching name was "Lapun" joining 27 Jan 2014.  Myself joining 4 days later.  As my wife detested camping and Risky being single, we spent many a time Touring and Camping. I was fortunate enough to join him on his only item on his bucket list, and that was to Cross The Nullabor in April of this year.

Risky was not deeply involved with geocaching with only 30 odd finds but always happy to join me whenever the opportunity arose.

As myself and my wife witnessed his will, we were only too familiar with his wish that upon his death his ashes were to be spread over the SWAMPY PLAIN RIVER at his favourite spot at Geehi Campground. (Pictured)

Risky knew the area and its history..

He was a member of the Kosciuszko Hut Association for many years and on quite a few occassions have me trecking through icy cold waters to reach his favourite ones.

Fortunately you dont need to get your feet wet reaching GZ near Geehi Hut. It is approximately 850 Meters from Campground entry at Alpine Way.

What I love about Geehi Campgrounds that sets it apart from all others is the large unrestricted open areas in which to camp.

There are 3 main campgrounds namely...  Geehi Flats, Behrs Flat, and Old Geehi Campground. These span a distance of approximately 3.5 Km.

Above photo : Keebles Hut  at Behrs Flat Campground.

## Note  If further exploring the area,  River Crossing near Geehi Hut should be open. If not open...... Access to Behrs Flat Campground and  Old Geehi Campground is via Behrs Flat Trail. West side of Swampy Plains River starting at Bridge.  Track can be rough in places. 2WD to Keebles Hut in dry weather only. Access to Old Geehi Campground requires 4WD river fording or (Non water crossings) via Geehi Walls Trail off Alpine Way just to the north of rest area entry.

As mentioned, never short of something to see or do at Geehi.

Such as this Geocache owner feeding a local.

ENJOY  !!
