Geocache Description:

The constellation Orion is also referred to as the great hunter, you can see it from October through March in both hemispheres. It is a large constellation filling an area of 594 square degrees. It ranks 26th in size among the 88 constellations in the sky. Even with the Victorville city lights, Orion shines brightly, without a doubt it's a beautiful addition to the constellations in the winter sky. It contains an asterism of three stars in a straight line known as Orion’s Belt. This is one of the most recognizable groupings of stars in the night sky.

We designed the Orion series in order to draw attention to the beauty of the night sky as well as to teach the names of all the corresponding stars. It was a learning experience for us as we referred to the cache by the stars' name as we were working and hiding the caches.

*** The hides are mostly easy finds to allow for the whole series to be done in one day. Sturdy shoes are always a good idea while trampling around in the desert. A walking stick is very helpful to poke around especially since there are critters or to reach a cache safely out in the desert. My husband and I drove to the further ones and used mountain bikes to set the ones that were closer together. I think walking is a good option too, it'll just take longer to finish or could be done in sections.
