This series that began before the November, 2020 election is about patriotism and as such you will be able to see an American flag from at least one of the stages. The posted coordinates are for the flag.
Our U.S. Constitution
The United States Constitution is a bold experiment in democracy of more than 200 years. Our Constitution has proved both stable and flexible enough to survive and remain effective in a world totally different from the one in which it was originally written.
The framers purposefully made the Constitution difficult to alter and amend. An amendment must first pass both houses of Congress by a two-thirds majority and must then be ratified by the legislatures of three-fourths of the states.
The difficulty in altering the Constitution
- prevents a majority from granting tyrannical powers to the government in a time of crises
- prevents a majority from easily taking away the rights of minorities
- prevents those in office from holding on to power by increasing their terms in office
The Constitution has three main functions:
- It creates a national government consisting of a legislative, an executive and a judicial branch with a system of checks and balances among the three branches.
- It divides power between the federal government and the states. This division of authority is referred to as federalism.
- It protects the individual liberties of American citizens from intrusions by the government.
The word freedom does not occur in the U.S. Constitution.
"We have the oldest written constitution still in force in the world, and it starts out with three words: 'We, the people.'" - Ruth Bader Ginsburg
“Let us never forget the fact that there is but one piece of paper protecting us from tyranny. May that fire of freedom never go out.”- Alex Madajian
“America’s most important export is the U.S. Constitution."– Karla Jones
"The U. S. Constitution doesn't guarantee happiness, only the pursuit of it. You have to catch up with it yourself." - Benjamin Franklin
