Geocache Description:

Empedocles (c.494 – c. 434 BC) was a Greek pre-Socratic philosopher who suggested that four ultimate 'roots' made all the structures in the world, namely: earth, air, fire and water. Plato later referred to these 'roots' as 'elements', often known as 'classical elements'. These are clearly to be differentiated from our current scientific understanding of chemical elements and the Periodic Table.

This mini-series of caches is based around the four Empedoclesian 'roots', with each one relating to either earth, air, fire or water. Two of the caches require some equipment for access, so be sure to read the descriptions and look at the attributes.

This Wherigo converts your player into a virtual version of the ‘Reverse Cache Box’ which tells you the distance to the cache, but not the bearing.

The cartridge is available to download HERE on the Whereigo.com website.

Your task is to find the cache by periodically querying your Reverse Cache Box for the distance to the final location. Try to use your Reverse Cache Box as few times as possible. All instructions and necessary information needed to complete the cartridge are contained within it. The cartridge is multi-lingual.

To begin, visit the information board at Waypoint 1 to collect some numbers:

A = Number of birds + number of dragonflies

B = 'Arena'

C = Number of birds x 'Minature Steam Railway'

D = Number of artwork icons (including the key)

E = Number of picnic tables + number of cows

F = 'The Lakeside Centre'

Now enter the following three 6-digit codes into your player:

A0AB0C  (checksum = 21)
DE0B0C  (checksum = 27)
0CEA0F  (checksum = 23)

As per the theme, you will need waterproof footwear (ie. Wellington boots) to access the cache. In extreme conditions after prolonged heavy rain, you might want to upgrade to waders (but probably best leave it for more settled conditions if that's the case).

Waypoint averaging has been used to set the co-ordinates, but tree cover could be problematic, especially at certain times of the year.

Please do not post any photos or details that would give away the final location.

Many thanks to -Waldmeister- for creating such a flexible wherigo cartridge.
