Geocache Description:

Freeburgh Ladies Rifle Association

THIS IS A LETTERBOX HYBRID : the container is NOT at the posted co-ordinates BUT the info you need is. A letterbox hybrid cache is basically a normal cache with a stamp in the container. Please leave the stamp in the cache since it is not a normal trade item. If you want to find out more about letterbox hybrids, check out the Geocaching Help Centre.

Here's some local history unveiled! In 1901 the Freeburgh Ladies Rifle Club often featured in the Ovens and Murray Advertiser which reported the arm to be used a Winchester 22 bore rifle and the distance 25 to 50 yards at the Freeburgh Reserve with Wednesday and Saturday as selected practice days. These women were good shots! Notably their marksmanship was praised when they defeated the Harrietville "gentlemen" by 18 points in the June. In another match using SALOON rifles and seven shots at tech range, with 7 aside, Harrietville Ladies club was also defeated at Freebugh. Given the 'finery' worn, its just as well they were required to do standing shots. Whilst now defunct, some decendents of this club still live in the Ovens Valley.

The final is within cooee and firing range but you need to head to WP1to find some numbers to help you hit the bulls eye first! (You may even be able to use the 'olde' way)

Please return items as found. Remember there is a STAMP at GZ.
