Story behind the cache:
So what does an Abingdon council estate and a World Heavyweight boxing champion have in common? In 1967, Muhammad Ali was stripped of his World Heavyweight Championship title after refusing to serve in the Vietnam War. However across the pond in Abingdon, boxing champion Paddy Monaghan stood up for him and after a successful petition with over 22,000 signatures, which he delivered to the American Embassy in London, the American Supreme Court cleared Muhammad Ali in 1971 and his boxing license was reinstated. After becoming lifeong friends in the 60's, Ali visited the Monaghans at their home on Saxton Road over 20 times, something which many people who lived in the area at the time have very fond memories of.
