Dr Elizabeth (Liz) Kernohan was a popular, larger than life figure in Camden. Liz held the seat of Camden for the Liberal Party for over 11 years.
She was born 24 June 1939 in Sydney and lived in Glebe, attend SCEGGS at Darlinghurst completing her leaving certificate in 1955.
Liz obtained her PhD degree in Agricultural Science at the University of Sydney and then worked at the University of Sydney farms at Camden before entering politics.
In March 1973 she was the first woman in Camden elected as a councillor of Camden Council and was re-elected from 1974-1991 and again in 2004 just before her death.
Liz held the position of Deputy Mayor in 1974-1977 and 1981-1984 as well as becoming Mayor in 1980 and 1985-1991.

After retiring from State politics, Liz Kernohan was re-elected to Camden Council in early 2004, but sadly passed away on 21 October, 2004 in Camden.
In her memory, Liz Kernohan Drive was named in her honour. A new intersection was opened between Liz Kernohan Drive and the Camden Bypass on 29 August 2014, connecting the new suburb of Spring farm with Elderslie. At this time there was a tree planting ceremony with the unveiling of a plaque to honour the memory and works of the late Liz Kernohan.
The plaque can be seen at this intersection along the outside perimeter of the park ,also named after her “ Liz Kernohan Picnic Area” There is a covered eating area and double BBQ set with plenty of seating throughout the park. If you are into chess or table tennis you may like this place. Plenty of Jacarandas and Oleanders along the fence line.
Don't park along Camden bypass or near the intersection of Liz Kernohan Drive. The best safe parking is along Greenfield Cresent that runs parallel to Camden bypass and near to the cache.
The cache is just in the park, along the walking track but not near the plaque. BYO pen. PLEASE ENSURE YOU PUSH BACK THE CACHE BEHIND ONCE YOU HAVE LOGGED. Well done SueDan83 for being FTF
