Geocache Description:

This cache is part of a series of caches which are placed at or near village halls and community centres. For details and statistics visit the Village Hall Series website Click here

Denshaw is a village in Saddleworth—a civil parish of the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham in Greater Manchester. It lies by the source of the River Tame, high amongst the Pennines above the village of Delph, 4.6 miles (7.4 km) northeast of Oldham. It has a population of around 500.

Historically a part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Denshaw and its surroundings have provided archaeological evidence of Stone and Bronze Age activity in the area. The name Denshaw is of Old Norse derivation, and the oldest part of the village is an ancient hamlet.

Built up around the junction of five major roads, until the 20th century, Denshaw consisted mainly of smallholdings and a few public houses such as the Junction Inn, originally built as a coaching house for travellers.

Denshaw village hall is the home of an amateur dramatic group and hosts various village activities; the hall was awarded a grant of £10,000 by the Awards for All scheme, a small grants scheme run by the National Lottery.  The information I have found indicates the current hall was built in or around 2008.  I am unsure if another hall stood at this location previously.  The hall comprises of a small meeting room, medium meeting room and main hall.  There is a a large Council owned field adjacent to the hall.

The Cache

This is a simple off set multi - the physical container is a short walk from the hall.  You may wish to use the hall car park, though I would ask that if the hall is in use at the time of your visit, you leave the car park free for hall users - there is plenty of on-street parking in the village.

On the wall of the village hall you will see a Defibrillator. There is a code printed on there which starts CPAD and is followed by three numbers - lets call them XYZ

The cache can be found at N53 35.ABC W002 02.DEF.

A = X
B = Y-Z
C = X-5
D = X-1
E = Y-7
F = Z-2
