Where: Union Park, Edinburgh Corstorphine area
Time: 1451 hours till 1541 hours (I'd have put that in the display above, but it wouldn't let me) 🙁
Something a bit different for events this time. 🙂 This event is to commemorate one of the Palindrome days this year, which happens rarely and is quite fascinating to see in action without realising it 😲
We will observe social distancing for this event, and I'll bring sanitiser along if anyone needs it.
'palin dromo' (Greek) - meaning 'running back again' or simply meaning -
Palindrome:
A palindrome is a word, phrase, verse or sentence that reads the same forward or backwards.
This means that today's event date 22nd Feb 2022 is therefore a palindromic date 😁 (22/02/2022)
Facts: There's been a Palindrome week every year since 2011, every century has 9 years with 10 Palindrome days in a row. These years are always in the 2nd decade of the century. The date of this event is the ONLY date this year until the next one in 2030 where you have a UK Palindromic date.
American Palindromic dates this year:
There are obviously other Palindromic dates this year (there are 3 that I've counted, other than including this event), but they're all in the American date format where the days and the months are reversed. For example, the only US Palindrome dates this year are Feb 20th 2022 (2-20-2022) as well as February 2nd 2022, which is (2-2-22), which is also referred to as Two's Day, as well as being the same date as Groundhog Day in America. 😁
Souvenirs
Edit- This wasn't planned for the event, but Groundspeak have announced a special souvenir for today! :) you can get the Deuces Wild souvenir for Tues 22nd Feb 2022 if you find 2 caches on this day (or just do 1 cache on top of this event). I've uploaded a pic of the souvenir in the gallery of this cache page if anyone wants to read about it more. :)
Some examples of Palindromes:

Palindrome Sentences:
Poor Dan is in a droop.
Never odd or even.

Madam, I'm Adam.
So many dynamos!
And so on lol. :)
Bonus fact:
The world's longest palindromic word is the onomatopoeic TATTARRATTAT, mentioned in Ulysses (1922) for a knock on the door.
That's enough about Palindromes lol, so feel free to come along, bring Tbs with you and share some stories 😎
Additional note:
Some of you might remember the location, but hands up who spotted the coordinates for the event are Palindromic too? 😆 (N55 56.130 W003 16.555) It's literally the only place in Edinburgh that was actually free for this (every other palindromic coordinates I tried for this event were in people's houses or buildings, so obviously those were out), but it's still quite a fascinating thing to learn :)
See you there!
