Geocache Description:

Ainsley House was the third home of Campbell canning pioneer John Colpitts Ainsley.  Ainsley traveled to the U.S. from his native England.  He ultimately settled in Campbell and set about canning fresh California fruit for export to England.  He built his third home in 1925 on the corner of Hamilton Ave. and Johnson Ave. (now Bascom Ave).  After his death, the house remained largely vacant until 1989 when his granddaughters donated the house and garage to the city of Campbell.  In 1990, the buildings were moved from their original location to 300 Grant St., behind the library in downtown Campbell.  eBay's world headquarters now occupies the former site of Ainsley House.  From the cache location, look across the street and imagine a bygone time when this area consisted of orchards and farmhouses and dirt roads.  Be sure to take a look at the pictures I've uploaded.  The cache contains a log sheet only, bring a writing implement.
