Geocache Description:

Welcome to Killarney Pool / Park.

This is one of my favourite basketball courts in the city - not far from this GZ.

There's a waypoint that shows where the 3 point line is. 22' 2" or 6.75 m. from the basket, this was introduced in the NBA in 1979.  You can slso find another waypoint for the free throw line.

Who invented the game of basketball?

Dr. James Naismith, physical educator, author, inventor, chaplain, physician (born 6 November 1861 in Almonte. James Naismith is best known as the inventor of the sport  basketball.

Here's some interesting basketball facts:

Shaquille O'Neal and 3 pointers

Shaq only made 1 three pointer in his career; went 1 for 22 making a percentage of 4.5%.  Here's a video of that single shot.  For comparison Steve Kerr shot over 45%.   Let's not even get into Shaq's free throws....

Most points in a single game

Wilt Chamberlain scored 100 points to set the NBA single-game record in 1962. In the modern game Kobe Bryant scored 81 in 2006! RIP. One of the best to ever play the game.

Three Pointers

The world record-holder is the late Fred Newman, a bespectacled former Cal Tech assistant basketball coach and computer programmer. The amateur sank 209 straight three’s back in 1996 when he was 60 years old.

No one in basketball history has shot the three as beautifully and as often, or with as much flair or pure joy as Stephen Curry. Watch him sink 105 in a row during practice here . He's also the leading free throw percentage at almost 91%!

Shooting Free Throws underhand

The son of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry has been shooting free throws underhand since high school. It helped make him into a star in high school and college. Free-throw shooting style wasn’t typical, but it was effective. He finished his NBA career with a 90% shooting percentage from the line!

Underhand free throws video.

Free Throws

It took 12 hours and 2,750 shots for Tom Amberry, a 71-year-old retired California podiatrist, to set the world record for free throws consecutively shot and made. Full article can be found here .

The Cache

This is a Difficulty 3.0 with a FTF prize inside!  Do take a photo of the area, it's an amazing inner city park. This is my first hide here in North America.

Waypoint 1. Three point line

Waypoint 2. Free throw line

Bring a basketball next time!
