Giant Plane Tree | დიდი ჭადარი

Venerable trees often tell more than people about the past or the present. 

This 900-year-old plane tree is a flagship of Telavi. His exact age no one knows is probably between 900 and 1000 years.
This is an oriental plane tree, which is 46 meters high and has a circumference of 12 meters. The giant is a witness to many historical facts. Great Georgian writers Ilia, Akaki, Vazha and other prominent Georgian and foreign figures visit this tree. It still amazes the viewer today and proudly overlooks the Alazani Valley.

Telavis giant plane tree, which is found under different names in ancient, late antique and early medieval sources. The first information about him is provided by the Greek geographer Strabo. From Strabo's scanty records we can conclude that the tree was planted by King Parnavaz.
The tree is a witness to the millennial history of Telavi and Kakheti. A small Kakhetian, King Erekle II, was raised under his skirts and lived for his homeland.

900-წლოვანი ჭადარი თელავის სავიზიტო ბარათია. მისი ზუსტი ასაკი არავინ იცის, სავარაუდოდ, 900-დან 1000 წლამდეა. 
ეს აღმოსავლური ჭადარია, რომლის სიმაღლე 46 მეტრია, გარშემოწერილობა კი – 12 მეტრი. ეს გიგანტი მრავალი ისტორიული ფაქტის მოწმეა. ამ ჭადარს სანახავად სწვევიან დიდი ქართველი მწერლები ილია, აკაკი, ვაჟა და სხვა გამოჩენილი ქართველი თუ უცხოელი მოღვაწეები.

იგი მნახველს დღესაც აოცებს და ამაყად გადაყურებს ალაზნის ველს.
თელავის ჭადარი, რომელიც ანტიკურ, გვიანანტიკურ და ადრეშუასაკუნოვან წყაროებში სხვადასხვა სახელწოდებით გვხვდება. პირველ ცნობებს მის შესახებ გვაწვდის ბერძენი გეოგრაფი სტრაბონი. სტრაბონის მწირი ცნობებიდან შეგვიძლია დავასკვნათ ის, რომ ხე ფარნავაზ მეფემ დარგო. 
ხე თელავისა და კახეთის ათასწლოვანი ისტორიის მოწმეა. მის კალთებქვეშ აღიზარდა და სამშობლოსთვის იცოცხლა პატარა კახმა, მეფე ერეკლე II-მ.
