Geocache Description:

Welcome to Playa Zancudo! We've been coming here since 1999; too many times to count. And since there's a shortage of Geocaches in Costa Rica I am hosting this simple cache series. Playa Zancudo is a fantastic out of the way escape destination. I come here to reset. The beach is long, flat, and deserted, but near here is the best surfing in Zancudo! The houses and cabinas are private and awesome.

In the messed up year of 2020, we bought a house a short hot distance from this location. The previous owners and builders named it "Shelter From The Storm" and it served as a beacon for us in 2020, something to strive to get to when travel was possible. We came here for 5 weeks to live and work, and it has provided shelter from two hurricanes while here as well.

We've been back thrice since, as of this posting in Feb 2022. Everytime I pass this sign on my bike on a little outing I think, "that's a funny sign, it needs a geocache." so here we are. SURFS UP!

This cache is a simple hide. I want you to find the cache, so please contact me if you have any issues finding it, or for a blatant hint before attempting. Photos and hints should be used. Grab the smilie! You've come all this way, you deserve a smiley. Hopefully it will last but this is a hostile climate. I have arranged with a local business owner to help perform maintenance on the cache should the need arise. They will be able to replace the container should it get lost or destroyed. I will be able to perform maintenance on it myself annually or biannually.

The cache is a black magnetic nano on the SURF SOT sign. Check the photos and read the hint. Get the smiley, not trapped in the jungle... This isn't meant to be hard. I WANT YOU TO FIND IT! But do be cautious of curious muggle Ticos nearby...

UPDATED Feb 2023: After decades of seeing that sign there, suddenly it disappears. So, there's sadly no SURF SOT sign any more. The geocache is a black nano on the BACKSIDE of the defunct power meter stand.

As always, WATCH YOUR FOOTING first. Know where you're stepping, and what could be underfoot.
