Geocache Description:

This the third of a series of caches which will bring you along new tracks and to high points around Churton Park.

Callender Reserve is named after the developers of this area, and covers a large area of hillside  between Amesbury and Melksham Drives.

The cache is on a new track linking Melksham Drive to Amesbury Drive. As yet there are no signs at the track ends, so refer to the waypoints given below.

Track end at Amesbury Drive.

On this track, and also the track from Melksham Drive to Foxham Terrace, there are some viewpoint seats, the installation of which was facilitated by the Churton Park Community Association.   Wellington City Council have been very busy in the last couple of years planting native revegetation plants on these grassy hillsides. So the track which is at present across open grassy areas, will become a shady bush walk.

This track will in due course become part of an interesting loop walk, by starting at the Stebbings Dam Recreation Area. An existing path runs up the valley to Rochdale Drive. From there a track continues up the valley on the west side. At present this track has no easy exit to Melksham Drive, as two bridges need to be built. There will then be a direct connection to Melksham Drive opposite the commencement of this Callender Reserve track.

This view from the seat will change markedly when houses are built on the east side of the valley, where bulk earthworks were carried out some years ago. Starting from the top, the new streets are Bollington Rise, Sandford Terrace, Crompton Avenue, Poynton Grove and Rochdale Drive.

So sit on the seat, enjoy the view, and ponder where the cache might be. You are trying to find a 35mm film container (plastic) with no pencil.
