[GDI] Giro delle idrovore – Le porte vinciane
[ITA] Questa cache fa parte di una serie che vi porterà a scoprire i territori della grande bonifica del Veneto Orientale e del Basso Piave, tra antichi e moderni manufatti, immersi nello splendido paesaggio litoraneo e rurale fra Torre di Fine, Caorle, Eraclea e Brian, circondato da distese di fertili colture, agriturismi, idrovore monumentali e particolari, fossi, frutteti, ponti e canali. Il percorso, da farsi preferibilmente in bicicletta, è stato ideato con l’aiuto di 29 pollici, grande amante delle idrovore.
Il territorio della piccola frazione di Brian è diviso tra il comune di Caorle e quello di Eraclea. Ritrovamenti eseguiti nel 1957 nella tenuta Romiati ed in aree vicine portarono alla luce delle fondazioni di mattoni "sequispadales" di un grande edificio, certificando l'origine della località già in epoca romana. Brian era un luogo di scambio marittimo.
Il centro è racchiuso tra i canali Revedoli, Largon, la Livenza Morta ed il canale Brian. Quest'ultimo, fino ai primi anni del 1900, è stato un importante corso d'acqua per la navigazione interna.
Alla confluenza della Livenza Morta con il canale Brian, si trovano le imponenti “porte vinciane”, uno dei sistemi più ingegnosi per il controllo dei flussi acquei. Queste porte prendono il nome dal loro progettista, Leonardo da Vinci, e servono a separare le acque marine, salate, da quelle dolci dei canali, necessarie all’irrigazione.
È un sistema tanto semplice quanto ingegnoso ed efficace. Quando la marea sale e l’acqua di mare spinge verso l’interno, le porte si chiudono con la forza stessa dell’acqua, mentre nel momento in cui il canale si alza di livello, ad esempio per le piogge, la stessa forza spinge al contrario aprendo le porte facendo defluire le acque.

[ENG] This cache is part of a series that will take you to discover the territories of the great reclamation of Eastern Veneto and the Lower Piave, between ancient and modern artifacts, immersed in the splendid coastal and rural landscape between Torre di Fine, Caorle, Eraclea and Brian, surrounded from expanses of fertile crops, agritourisms, monumental and particular water pumps, ditches, orchards, bridges and canals. The route, preferably to be done by bicycle, was designed with the help of 29 inches, a great lover of water pumps.
The territory of the small hamlet of Brian is divided between the municipality of Caorle and that of Eraclea. Findings carried out in 1957 in the Romiati estate and in nearby areas brought to light the "sequispadales" brick foundations of a large building, certifying the origin of the locality already in Roman times. Brian was a maritime trading post. The center is enclosed between the Revedoli, Largon, Livenza Morta and Brian channels. The latter, until the early 1900s, was an important watercourse for inland navigation.
At the confluence of the Livenza Morta with the Brian canal, there are the imposing “vincian gates”, one of the most ingenious systems for controlling water flows. These gates are named after their designer, Leonardo da Vinci, and are used to separate the seawater, salty, from the fresh water of the canals, necessary for irrigation. It is a system as simple as it is ingenious and effective. When the tide rises and the sea water pushes inwards, the doors close with the force of the water itself, while when the canal rises in level, for example due to rains, the same force pushes on the contrary by opening the doors making the waters flow.
