#9 Joan Young
This cache is part of a series of caches placed to honor those who have completed an end to end hike on the North Country Trail.
Joan Young was the ninth person and first woman to complete an end to end hike on the NCT. Joan completed her hike in sections between 1991-2010 and then returned to the trail in 2014 to complete the then proposed new section of trail in Vermont, which would ultimately connect the NCT with the Appalachian Trail. She completed 4455 miles on the trail during that time period.
In addition to her love of hiking and the outdoors, Joan has written two books, North Country Cache and North Country Quest, to chronicle her journey, has written several articles for the North Star Magazine, and continues to blog about her experiences on the trail.
Joan is currently the Long Distance Hike Committee Chair and August 3, 2010 was named "Joan Young Day" on the North Country National Scenic Trail
At the time of the publishing of this cache, Joan, who is 73 years old, is currently out on the trail attempting a thru-hike of the NCT. We wish her luck!

ABOUT THIS CACHE: This cache is placed along the section of the North Country Trail (NCT: https://northcountrytrail.org/) that runs through Albion, MI by MIGSPMom and Indenyl. The NCT is over 4,700 miles long and runs through eight states. There is quite a bit of foot traffic along the trail so beware of muggles. Every year the NCT association hosts a challenge for you to hike 100 miles. This cache will help you reach that goal.
