Geocache Description:

D. Aubrey Moodie has been described as the "Father of Nepean." He has told his story in his autobiography, "The Spirit of Nepean," which provides a great introduction to the history of the Township of Nepean, and then the City of Nepean, prior to its annexation by Ottawa. One learns about his childhood, experience of the Great depression, farming life, entry into politics, time as Deputy Reeve and Reeve, and innumerable facets of public life. His hand seemed to be everywhere, roads (Moodie Drive), schools (D. Aubrey Moodie Intermediate School), the city hall location in Bells Corners, the Nepean Hydro Commission, the Queensway Carleton Hospital, and many more. Aubrey lived to be nearly a hundred years old, and is buried in the Bells Corners Union Cemetery, with his gravesite maked in findagrave.com. A Google search on D. Aubrey Moodie generates a torrent of entries, including, of course, his own wikipedia page.

To qualify to log this cache, you'll visit a tiny fraction of the relevant locations, not very far apart, and answer a few questions relating to his life and congregation. Email or message me the answers, and go ahead and log the cache - I'll get back to you if there are problems.

1. D. Aubrey Moodie was the name he used formally, e.g., for his autobiography, and Aubrey was how we called him informally. What was his first name?

2. Aubrey was an active member of Bells Corners United Church (BCUC), and gave generously of his time, talent and treasures throughout his life. I worked with Aubrey there, and was one of the friends who encouraged him to write his autobiography. BCUC's building at the corner of Moodie Drive is unusual in that it has two "cornerstones" and they are on an interior corner rather than an external one. Go to the Cornerstones waypoint, and find the stones. What are the two years on the two stones?

3. Aubrey was influential in the Nepean Hydro Commision. Go to the D. A. Moodie Distribution waypoint on Old Richmond Road, and look at the plaque identifying it as the D. A. Moodie Electric Distribution Station. What are the two years that appear in the plaque's inscription?

4. The posted coordinates are for the D. Aubrey Moodie Intermediate School. Since its construction, the building there has been used for a variety of purposes, including service under different school boards, and a COVID testing center. I'd welcome you providing a photo of yourself (you do not have to show your face) at the coordinates with a thumbs up, or a personal item to confirm you were there
