Geocache Description:

Starting in 1888 there was a trolley that ran 9 miles from Harrisburg to Middletown.  It was used by families, steelworkers, shoppers, and mail delivery.  In the late 1930's the trolley was abandoned and the tracks ripped up.  The last trolley left Harrisburg for the last trip in July, 1939.  The journey was a huge event watched by many.

Essential to the trolley car was the trolley car pole that provided the trolley with the electricity needed.  There are very few original genuine trolley poles in America but Steelton has one!

It's old and cracked.  The metal is rusting and chipping but it still stands firm in concrete by the Post Office capped at the top.

Currently, there's no information plaque for this tribute to a bygone age.  However, there is an ongoing effort to get one.

We hope you enjoy seeing this piece of history, reflecting on its history and those who benefitted, imagining the sounds of the bells and the conductor calling, "all aboard", and noting the contrast with the modern methods of transportation all around us.

Note that we will respond to incorrect answers but might not respond to correct ones.  If you don't hear from us, then you can assume that all answers are correct.

If found in a group, the answers are needed from only 1 person in the group as long as the group is identified!

Congrats to BethKatz for braving the weather and getting the FTF!

We will only respond to incorrect answers.  If you don't hear from us, then you answered correctly.

In order to log this cache, please email answers to these four questions:

1.  Estimate the height of the pole in feet.

2.  How many things are attached to the pole near the top but below the cap?

3.  What do you think these are and how were they used?  (Both serious answers and creative answers accepted!)

4.  How many metal bands near the bottom are reinforcing the integrity of the pole due to the cracks?

(Optional)  Please post a photo of you or your group at the monument with your log.  NO SPOILERS PLEASE!
