Geocache Description:

You need to buy a ticket for the park. Avaiabele only online on the page:

Skywalk Biokovo is located at the Ravna Vlaška area, at an elevation of 1228 metres, right next to the info center at the 13th kilometr on the Biokovo road. At the viewpoint, there is also a geological column providing a 3D overview of the cross-section of the rock that forms Mt. Biokovo, from this formation until today, with a geological time chart and description of the types of rock and their ages. The viewpoint area is also equipped with parking and restroom facilities. The Skywalk is reached from the Biokovo road that starts at the entrance into Biokovo Nature Park, about 6 km east of Makarska, and leads to the highest peak, Sv. Jure (St. George) at an elevation of 1762 metres, making it Croatia's highest paved road. The viewpoint plateau is 23 x 3 metres in size, offering a stunning view over the sea and islands. On sunny, windy days, it is possible to see all the way to Italy. A walk along the clear glass skywalk, over the edge of the cliff, provides a bird's eye view of the Mt. Biokovo rocks edge of the cliffs. Due to the unfavourable geomechanical properties of the soil, the proximity to fault lines and earthquake zones, and the strong winds that blow here, a pre-stressed concrete construction was designed for the main support system, upon which the steel and glass structure sits. The floor of the Skywalk is made entirely of glass.

Building the Skywalk Biokovo viewpoint was part of the project 'New Adrion — Promoting the sustainable use of the natural heritage of Biokovo Nature Park', financed from the European Regional Development Fund, as part of the Operational programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-2020. The project consists of 12 project elements that will increase the educational capacity of visitors to the Biokovo Nature Park by developing new educational programs and facilities, increase the attractiveness of the natural heritage of the Park and increase the number of visitors by investing in infrastructure and facilities. a horseshoe-shaped lookout point outside the cliff with a glass surface for walking called the Skywalk Biokovo.
