Geocache Description:

This cache will bring you to my favorite places to hike in Norwich, and to my knowlegde, memory there hasn't even been a cache here, so I figured with this special hide, I would finially bring one to this beautiful place.   It will lead you to a great spot to view our small town from above so bring your cameras.  This spot also known as West Hill, has a rich history steming back to the early 1900’s, when it was an industrial stone quarry, as such it was largely barren of trees and other green spaces. After the quarry closed, nature returned and transformed a scarred landscape into the picturesque views we appreciate today.  For many years this was a secret gem only the locals or mountain bike enthusiast new about with some poorly maintained trails that was sought out by the adventourous types or those lucky to know of its existance.   Then in 2021 was purchased by the Chenango Greenway Conservancy who has and continures to make incredible strides and improving and maintianing this beautiful place.   The trails are now very well maintained and continually improving this great area, making a well sought out spot for hiking, biking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and now perhaps geocaching as well.   Visit this site for more info about the Greenway and trail information.

To log this cache as a find you will need to go to the listed cordinants and take a photo, of yourself, your GPS, or an object of your choosing at the spot and post it with your find log.   In addition email me the following answers.

1) At ground zero looking to the East, choose a building and or sturucture you can see and describe it to me (type of material used to build it, shape estimated size etc)   If you are local and or know Norwich or want to do some research you can get bonus points for telling me what building it is or multiple if you so wish.

2) What type of stone was once quarried here.  (see waypoint for a good spot to see the stone)   If you don't know name of stone you see then describe what you see, texture, color, shape, estimated size.

I hope you enjoy this spot and the trails here as much as I have throughout the years.
