I love to go out exploring, not just geocaching but just exploring what's around me.
Art is subjective, but good art will always make you have a reaction, whether it's a gasp, shock, hatred or anything in between! And that's exactly what this piece did when I first glimpsed it. I didn't know what it was or why it was there, but I knew it was impressive!
This eight-metre high work of art depicting Daedalus poised to take flight for the first time was installed by Fareham Borough Council next to the Peel Common roundabout.
Funded by the National Grid specifically for the project, it was chosen by Fareham residents from a shortlist in 2019. The winning entry was by Nigel Searle, an artisan blacksmith who set out to design a sculpture to inspire hope and achievement as well as the joy of discovery.
Portsmouth-based blacksmith Peter Clutterbuck, who specialises in large-scale iron artwork, then created the piece, which is now a striking focal point for Daedalus Common.
I have been looking for a good location to place this awarded Virtual and completing the new labs very nearby, and remembering my reaction to it, I thought this was perfect.
THE CACHE
To log the cache you must post a photo of you, your GPS or your caching name IN FRONT of the statue. Caches without photos will be deleted. The park itself is very new and I am looking forward to watching it evolve as the trees grow. Please take time to read the plaque to the left as you face the statue from the front.
