Geocache Description:

Open 9 am - dusk daily

Sitting on the ridge overlooking the Musconetcong Valley is this 150 acre site. The views are spectacular. Point Mountain lies just to the left side as you look east.

In 1978 “The Blue Army Shrine of the Immaculate Heart of Mary” was built on this site, topped by a crown of twelve stars. In 1979 a 26 foot bronze statue weighing 6 tons was installed standing 145 above ground level. The statue was cast in a foundry in Florida and at the time was the largest bronze statue cast in the twentieth century.  The right hand of the statue is holding Rosary beads and the left hand is holding a Scapular both made of stainless steel.  This unusual structure can been seen from many vantage points throughout the area.

The site is free and open to all. There are many religious statues and shrines but my favorite is the meditative Rosary Garden.  Usually quiet and peaceful the area may be restricted for special events or unusually crowded, especially on the 13th of the months from May-October.  Please be respectful of activities that may be happening while you are there.

To log this virtual cache, take a picture of something you find interesting at this site, a view, a statue, a place, a building, you choose, and include the coordinates of where you were standing when you took the picture. Send to me. See my example in the gallery.

This Virtual Cache is part of a limited release of Virtuals created between March 1, 2022 and March 1, 2023. Only 4,000 cache owners were given the opportunity to hide a Virtual Cache. Learn more about Virtual Rewards 3.0 on the Geocaching Blog.
