Geocache Description:

1969. gada vētra to nopostīja aizskalojot gultni un laivas to vairs nevarēja izmantot, un tā viņi tur paliks kamēr jūra to nesagrauzīs.

Task:

Pievieno fotogrāfiju savam logam ar Veco molu fonā, kas var apliecināt, ka esi bijis šajā vietā (selfijs, nika uzraksts, GPS aparāts, utt.)

The Kupskalnu Nature Trail was established in 2005. It is located on the border of Lapmežciems and Bigauņciems and appears as a wooden plank path along the Silinupe River, leading to the sea where the old Lapmežciems pier can be seen.

The trail is 400 meters long. At the beginning of the nature trail, there is a small parking lot by the roadside.

The Silinupe River is often frequented by waterfowl such as ducks, swans, and fish herons. The trail offers particularly picturesque views, especially at its end on the beach, where the sunrise can be observed over the sea on this side of the Riga Bay.

Lapmežciems Old Pier

There is very little information available about the Old Lapmežciems Pier.

It is known that during the Soviet era, the fishing collective farm "Selga" in Lapmežciems was the only collective farm that did not have its own port. On November 18, 1945, during a meeting of the "Selga" party organization, it was mentioned that, at the initiative of Reiņš Grunte, the construction of a fishing boat harbor and club was started in Lapmežciems.

These plans were disrupted by Mother Nature. In the early years, the pier was indeed used for the delivery of goods to the shore for the needs of the "Selga" collective farm. The visible wooden poles were reportedly covered with a plank floor, which was used for the transportation of cargo.

However, nature was relentless. The sea brought sand, and the dredging did not deepen as hoped. The project was discontinued. The Silinupe River also stubbornly moved away from the straight exit towards the pier.

In 1969, a storm destroyed the pier, washing away its foundation, and boats could no longer use it. And so, they remain there until the sea demolishes them.
