Kosmonautenzentrum “Sigmund Jähn“
Zum V. Pioniertreffen 1963 in Karl-Marx-Stadt stiftet der Gewerkschaftsbund der DDR auf Anregung des Pädagogen Horst Messerknecht den Bau eines Kosmonautenzentrums für Kinder und Jugendliche als außerschulische Bildungseinrichtung. Wahrzeichen des Baus ist ein 36 Meter hohes Raketenmodell nach dem Vorbild der ersten bemannten Rakete im Weltall, der „Wostok“, mit der der sowjetische Kosmonaut Juri Gagarin 1961 als erster Mensch in den Weltraum gestartet ist.

außerdem: Aufnahme des "Kosmo" in den russischen Kosmonautenbund.
Das Kosmonautenzentrum gehört seit seiner Gründung am 14.08.1964 zum festen Bestandteil der Chemnitzer Bildungs- und Kulturlandschaft. Es trägt den Namen des ersten deutschen Raumfahrers und Chemnitzer Ehrenbürgers Dr. Sigmund Jähn und wird heute als Teil des Erlebnispädagogischen Zentrums im Küchwaldpark vom "solaris" - Förderzentrum für Jugend und Umwelt gGmbH Sachsen betrieben.
Kleine und große Kosmonauten werden hier von fachkundigen Mädchen und Jungen im Alter von 9 bis 18 Jahren betreut. Als Mitwirkende in der Arbeitsgemeinschaft gestalten sie die Faszination für Raumfahrt.
Hier können Interessierte simulierte Raumflüge in der Raumschiffkabine und Raumfahrertests durchführen oder Flugbegeisterte im Astrotrainer ihre körperliche Fitness testen, ob man selbst als Weltraumtourist geeignet wäre.

For the 5th pioneer meeting in 1963 in Karl-Marx-Stadt, the trade union federation of the GDR, at the suggestion of the pedagogue Horst Messerknecht, donates the construction of a cosmonaut center for children and young people as an extracurricular educational facility. The landmark of the building is a 36 meter high rocket model based on the model of the first manned rocket in space, the "Vostok", with which the Soviet cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin was the first human to launch into space in 1961.

Young and old cosmonauts are cared for here by knowledgeable girls and boys aged 9 to 18 years. As participants in the working group, they create the fascination for space travel. Here those interested can carry out simulated space flights in the spaceship cabin and astronaut tests or flight enthusiasts can test their physical fitness in the astro trainer to see if they themselves would be suitable as a space tourist.
