Cortina d'Ampezzo, soprannominata la Regina delle Dolomiti, è situata nel cuore delle Dolomiti venete in un’ampia valle circondata da alte vette, è una delle località di montagna più famose del mondo. Sede delle Olimpiadi invernali del 1956 e località sciistica per antonomasia, simbolo della mondanità italiana e internazionale, Cortina è da sempre una meta d’eccellenza per chi ama la montagna e i suoi paesaggi, lo sport e il divertimento.
Adagiata in un’ampia conca verde di prati e boschi, è circondata da alte montagne rese uniche dai colori rosati delle rocce: l’Antelao, il Sorapiss, la Croda da Lago, la Croda Rossa, le Tofane e il Cristallo, gruppi dolomitici di rara bellezza. Stupenda è pure la muraglia naturale del Pomagagnon, che le fa da sfondo. Con i suoi 140 chilometri di piste, inserite nel circuito Dolomiti Superski (un solo skipass per 12 zone sciistiche con 1.220 km di piste, che ne fa il più grande comprensorio sciistico del mondo), Cortina è una località top per gli appassionati dello sci. Le principali aree sciistiche sono il Faloria, il Cristallo, le Tofane e le Cinque Torri.
Cortina è stata teatro delle Olimpiadi invernali del 1956 e dei Campionati mondiali di sci alpino del 2021 e ospiterà, insieme a Milano, le Olimpiadi invernali del 2026.
Lo scoiattolo rosso è un personaggio che trae ispirazione dalla tradizione e dalla storia di Cortina d’Ampezzo. Il piccolo roditore è infatti uno degli animali che abitano i boschi delle Dolomiti. Nel 1939, fu scelto come simbolo del gruppo di arrampicatori ampezzani non professionisti, conosciuto appunto come “Gli Scoiattoli di Cortina”. Nel 1954, insieme a uno di loro – Lino Lacedelli – l’animaletto scalò la seconda vetta più alta del mondo, il K2. Col tempo, lo scoiattolo rosso è entrato a far parte dell’immaginario collettivo della Regina delle Dolomiti: compare nel logo turistico della località, così come in quello della stessa Fondazione Cortina 2021 ed è anche la mascotte della squadra cittadina di hockey.

Cortina d'Ampezzo, known as the Queen of the Dolomites, is located in the heart of the Dolomites in a wide valley surrounded by high peaks, it is one of the most famous mountain resorts in the world. Home of the 1956 Winter Olympics and a ski resort par excellence, a symbol of Italian and international social life, Cortina has always been a destination of excellence for those who love the mountains and their landscapes, sport and fun.
Lying in a large green basin of meadows and woods, it is surrounded by high mountains made unique by the pink colors of the rocks: Antelao, Sorapiss, Croda da Lago, Croda Rossa, Tofane and Cristallo. The natural wall of the Pomagagnon, which forms the background, is also wonderful. With its 140 kilometers of slopes, included in the Dolomiti Superski circuit (a single ski pass for 12 ski areas with 1,220 km of slopes, which makes it the largest ski area in the world), Cortina is a top resort for ski enthusiasts. The red squirrel is a character who takes inspiration from the tradition and history of Cortina d'Ampezzo. The small rodent is in fact one of the animals that inhabit the woods of the Dolomites. In 1939, it was chosen as the symbol of the group of non-professional climbers from Ampezzo, known as “Gli Scoiattoli di Cortina”. In 1954, together with one of them - Lino Lacedelli - the pet climbed the second highest peak in the world, K2. Over time, the red squirrel has become part of the collective imagination of the Queen of the Dolomites: it appears in the tourist logo of the locality, as well as in that of the Cortina 2021 Foundation itself and is also the mascot of the city hockey team.

Take a picture of you (or your GPS with coordinates or a sheet of paper with your nickname) in Cortina and, clearly visible, the red squirrel and post it with your log. WARNING: the red squirrel isn't at the given coordinates, you have to search for it and find it... in Cortina there are red squirrels everywhere! Red squirrels shown on smartphones and photomontages are not allowed!
Logs that do not meet these requirements will be deleted.
