Il Sentiero di Crinale 00 coincide sostanzialmente col percorso della Grande Escursione Appenninica (GEA), un itinerario escursionistico lungo 425 km che copre tutto l'Appennino tosco-romagnolo e tosco-emiliano, oggi suddivisibile in 28 tappe.Ideato nel 1981 da due esperti di trekking (Gianfranco Bracci e Alfonso Bietolini), e parte integrante del Sentiero Italia e del Sentiero Europeo E1, realizzato grazie ad un intervento della Regione Toscana, delle varie comunità montane interessate e del Club Alpino Italiano di Toscana ed Emilia-Romagna, fu inaugurato ufficialmente dagli stessi ideatori, con la partecipazione di Reinhold Messner, nel giugno 1983.
Da est ad ovest il percorso parte da Bocca Trabaria, al confine fra Umbria e Marche, ed arriva fino al Passo dei Due Santi, al confine tra le province di Parma e di Massa Carrara, dove inizia l'Alta Via dei Monti Liguri. Il sentiero è segnalato da bandierine verniciate bianche e rosse, con la scritta "GEA" in nero al centro e da cartelli su pali che indicano i tempi di percorrenza parziali. Al termine di ogni tappa è presente una struttura ricettiva che garantisce vitto e alloggio, in alcuni casi definita "Posto Tappa GEA".
Nel comprensorio dell'Abetone, il Sentiero 00 passa dal Monte Gomito (1892m slm), poi dal Rifugio Selletta (1711m slm), poi al Passo dell'Abetone alle Piramidi (1388 slm), poi dal Monte Maiori (1560m slm), fino ad arrivare al Monte Libro Aperto (1937m slm), attraversando vari impianti e piste sciistiche. Il cache è nascosto nel tratto tra il Passo dell'Abetone e il Monte Maiori, a brevissima distanza dal centro abitato, in pratica raggiungibile comodamente in auto. E' altamente consigliabile, dopo aver trovato il cache, proseguire la comoda e splendida passeggiata nel fitto bosco lungo il sentiero più facile, sottostante lo 00, che porta alla Foce della Verginetta e al Rifugio Casetta di Lapo e che d'inverno viene utilizzato come pista per sci da fondo.

The Ridge Parh 00 substantially coincides with the route of the Great Apennine Excursion (GEA), a 425 km long hiking itinerary that covers the entire Tuscan-Romagna and Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, now divided into 28 stages. trekking (Gianfranco Bracci and Alfonso Bietolini), and an integral part of the Path Italy and the European Path E1, realized thanks to the intervention of the Tuscany Region, the various mountain communities concerned and the Italian Alpine Club of Tuscany and Emilia-Romagna, was officially inaugurated by the same creators, with the participation of Reinhold Messner, in June 1983.
From east to west the route starts from Bocca Trabaria, on the border between Umbria and Marche, and reaches the Passo dei Due Santi, on the border between the provinces of Parma and Massa Carrara, where the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri begins. The path is marked by red and white painted flags, with the inscription "GEA" in black in the center and by signs on poles indicating the partial travel times. At the end of each stage there is an accommodation facility which guarantees board and lodging, in some cases called "GEA Stopover".
In the Abetone area, the Path 00 goes through Mount Gomito (1892m asl), then the Selletta Refuge (1711m asl), then the Abetone Pass at the Pyramids (1388 asl), then Mount Maiori (1560m asl), to arrive up to Mount Libro Aperto (1937m asl), crossing various ski lifts and slopes. The cache is hidden in the stretch between the Abetone Pass and Mount Maiori, a short distance from the town, practically easily reachable by car. It is highly advisable, after having found the cache, to continue the comfortable and splendid walk in the dense wood along the easier path, below the 00, which leads to Foce della Verginetta and the Casetta di Lapo Refuge and which in winter is used as a cross-country ski track.
