Il Castello, la Rocca, la Fortezza… così gli abitanti di Roccamandolfi chiamano il rudere del castello di Roccamandolfi. Sorge a 1.080 metri di altitudine e rappresenta uno dei più importanti manufatti fortificati del Molise di epoca medievale. Molto probabilmente fu eretto nella metà del X secolo ad opera del nobile longobardo Maginulfo. La fortezza venne attaccata e devastata nel 1223 per ordine di Federico II di Svevia, per stanarvi Tommaso da Celano, conte del Molise che si era ribellato all’imperatore.

The Castle, the Rocca, the Fortress ... this is how the inhabitants of Roccamandolfi call the ruin of the Roccamandolfi castle. It rises at 1,080 meters above sea level and represents one of the most important fortified artifacts of Molise from the Middle Ages. Most likely it was built in the mid-10th century by the Lombard nobleman Maginulfo. The fortress was attacked and devastated in 1223 by order of Frederick II of Swabia, to flush out Tommaso da Celano, count of Molise who had rebelled against the emperor.
