Geocache Description:

Greetings from Madeline Island, named after Madeleine Cadotte, daughter of Chief White Crane and wife of fur trader Michael Cadotte. The Ojibwe (Chippewa) and other native peoples made their home here for hundreds of years before European contact.

*** TIP-UP ***

Heavy winds and storms any time of the year often result in blown-over trees. A tree blows over in strong winds when its roots system is not established well enough to anchor it. Some tree types, because of their natural root layout, are more susceptible to blowing over than others. This “tipped-over tree” most certainly faced strong winds to topple it to the ground. The “tipped-up roots” next to the trail will be here for many years to come.

The hike along the Trail will bring you out to Lake Superior from the Point Parking lot. In all seasons, this ever-changing view from the island is worth the hike from “the Point” parking area.

The logbook must be signed, otherwise there is no proof of your success. BYOP Please place back exactly as found.
