Geocache Description:

This Letterbox Hybrid cache is not at the headline co-ords.2 Jigsaws need to be completed to obtain the starting co-ords item and the paces and approximate compass bearing from there to cache hidden at another item.

Background history to this cache.
We don't know when this wooded area lost its fences, and ceased to be part of a large garden, and started being used for walking or playing etc.But we first explored it a year or so before we placed our now archived "Victorian post box" cache near the entrance to Verno Lane(2017).
We had been surprised at the things we discovered.
There is still the remains of a stone built grotto and a curving sunken passage leading to the remains.
We also came across two pet tombstones of the late 19th century and early 20th century.
Also further along we found a brick boundary wall and the remains of a dismantled brick wall.
Soon after in Christchurch we saw and bought a copy of Olive J.Samuels"Verno Vignette" booklet which informed us of the history of this area and the Verno property and the life of Rear-Admiral George Vernon Jackson.
That prompted us to place our now archived "A Pirates Life" cache..
The booklet described the area of wood for when it was a garden and part of the Rear- Admirals property. At the time of publication (1996 ) more was still intact than now. But as mentioned above the open sunken open curved passage remains and some parts of a grotto wall.
The author describes that when this wood area was part of the garden there were, nearer the property, individual cave like retreats ornamented with shells and a pathway with rustic bridges spanning a brook as it meandered its way down through fields to Somerford Bridge where it joined the Mude stream.
(Have attempted to correctly condense many pages from boolet into a few lines here).

In March this year we were down in the wood again and we were saddened to see that one of the tombstones had recently been dug out and had gone. We hoped it was for legit reasons and had not had the same stolen fate that at the Victorian post box had had at the end of Verno Lane.
Today we explored the wooded area again and saw that the other tombstone had been extracted but was still laid on the ground with a spade left abandoned under it. Conclusion?

In tribute to the passed pets we use our past photos of the tombstones for these puzzles.
