 Legro di Orta, Il Paese Dipinto

Legro, una piccola ma vivace frazione arrampicata sulle colline cusiane che portano al Mottarone, ha ben poco da invidiare ad Orta, che, lì a due passi, è meta di turisti provenienti da tutto il mondo è resa famosa da scrittori, registi e poeti. Dall'abitato di Legro non s'intravede la "perla del cusio": la si può solo immaginare oltre il francescano Sacro Monte. Eppure, qualche chilometro di distanza ha fatto sì che un invisibile solco si levasse tra le due realtà di matrice comune. Orta, bella e radiosa meta di instancabili romantici; la piccola Legro relegata a un ruolo di secondo piano. In questi ultimi tempi la neonata Pro Loco, ha voluto, con grinta, riscoprire le tradizioni del borgo. Subito all'opera con il restauro del complesso di Santa Caterina, chiesa e casa parrocchiale, e poi una iniziativa assolutamente insolita: i muri dipinti. Difatti lo scorso anno, nel mese di luglio, artisti provenienti da tutta Italia e dall'Europa si sono cimentati nel raccontare, attraverso una serie di affreschi sui muri delle case, i film girati nel passato sul Lago d'Orta. Sembra un punto di partenza che il sodalizio locale ha fortemente voluto, quasi una base di lancio per rivalutare questa piccola realtà e portarla all'attenzione, se non alla pari della "perla del Lago", almeno a livello nazionale. Provenendo da Novara e raggiunto il famoso incrocio per Orta sulla Statale 229, si svolta a destra, seguendo le indicazioni. Sotto alla "cartellonistica stradale", si notano le vivaci insegne che indicano i "muri dipinti". Basta seguire il tutto e parcheggiare nei pressi della stazione. Legro è tutta lì.
Quattrocento abitanti con tanta voglia di fare, e una Pro Loco attivissima, nata da qualche anno, ma con grandi ambizioni e "geniali" iniziative. Lo scopo di questa associazione è far rivivere la frazione, invogliare i giovani a ritornare su queste colline cusiane, magari aprendo un piccolo laboratorio, un ristorante, un negozietto. Insomma un cuore pulsante a poche centinaia di metri da una meta turistica invidiata da mezzo mondo.
Legro vuole "giocare la sua parte". Da qui l'idea dei muri dipinti. Il modello arriva da Arcumeggia, il primo paese "dipinto d'Italia" in provincia di Varese, che aveva imboccato la strada della frazione cusiana, con un lento declino. I "colori" degli affreschi hanno ravvivato anche la vita, tanto che l'iniziativa è stata esportata in molte parti della penisola, ad esempio ad Amalfi e in Cadore. Legro, quella frazione che sembrava destinata a subire la "decadenza" dei tempi, ora ogni domenica è meta di una vera e propria processione di turisti, curiosi,appassionati, che sciamano per le piccole vie.

 Legro di Orta, The Painted City

Legro, a small but lively hamlet climbing the Cusian hills leading to Mottarone, has little to envy to Orta, which, just a stone's throw away, is a destination for tourists from all over the world and made famous by writers, directors and poets. The "pearl of the cusio" cannot be glimpsed from the town of Legro: it can only be imagined beyond the Franciscan Sacro Monte. Yet, a few kilometers away meant that an invisible furrow was raised between the two realities of a common matrix. Orta, a beautiful and radiant destination for indefatigable romantics; the little Legro relegated to a secondary role. In recent times, the newborn Pro Loco has wanted, with determination, to rediscover the traditions of the village. Immediately at work with the restoration of the complex of Santa Caterina, church and parish house, and then an absolutely unusual initiative: the painted walls. In fact, last year, in July, artists from all over Italy and Europe tried their hand at narrating, through a series of frescoes on the walls of the houses, the films shot in the past on Lake Orta. It seems a starting point that the local association has strongly desired, almost a launching pad to re-evaluate this small reality and bring it to the attention, if not on a par with the "pearl of the lake", at least at a national level. Coming from Novara and having reached the famous crossroads for Orta on Statale 229, turn right, following the signs. Legro, that hamlet that seemed destined to undergo the "decadence" of the times, now every Sunday is the destination of a real procession of curious, passionate tourists who swarm through the small streets.
