Geocache Description:

Historic Graniteville - Adventure Labs Bonus

This is the bonus cache for the Historic Graniteville Adventure Lab series. The cache is locacted in Gregg Park, named after William Gregg, the founder of the Graniteville Mill community. The community of Graniteville was established in the 1840s to support the first large-scale cotton mill in the south. William Gregg's paternalistic mill town included 90 homes, several boarding houses, six stores, two churches, and a school for the mill workers and their families. The community got its name because most of those original buildings were constructed of blue granite. Gregg required the children of mill workers to attend the public school he instituted, and violators were fined. As such, Graniteville holds the distinction of having the first compulsory education system in the Southern United States.

The adventure labs will take you to a number of historic sites in downtown Graniteville. After you answer each question correctly, you will be provided with information so that you can solve for the final coordinates.
