Geocache Description:

The Adventure of the Quite Curious Case

ACT: 3

“Alas Bunkson! There must have been one of my old adversaries ddsnag lurking about those parts of Festus Claybon Memorial City Park! He has rendered my plans useless and has even constructed conspiracy against me to foil me Bunkson! Do you hear? FOIL ME! He has stolen the only means by which I would be able to lead you to the next location and get on with our lives BUNKSON! Are you listening?!? I’m glad you’ve met me here Bunkson, I did run off and leave you back there quite hurriedly, but I was sure you’d find me, and you took too long in deciphering those few clues. It all makes sense now Bunkson. Dr. Festus left me one final clue to bring this case to a close. He had these numbers inscribed on his gravestone specifically for this purpose Bunkson. The numbers I gathered from ACT 2’s case, before ddsnag stole the original case, was on this wise: 37.3374_°N, 87._0221°W. All we need do now is to discern the month of Claybon’s birth and that solitary number must be entered in both vacancies to discern the final location!”

WARNING: SPOILERS BEYOND THIS POINT.

Only continue reading after you’ve located the last cache in Dr. Festus Claybon Memorial Park

(This is how the story should have played out if DDSNAG had not become the villain and stolen the coordinates that should have been present in ACT 2)

Codlock stood up from the park bench and gazed wearily out into the distance. I had barely enough time to place the last cache back where I had found it when Codlock began to tap me on my arm.

            “Look! Just there Bunkson!”

Codlock was pointing out towards the horizon just ever so slightly to the left of the park bench where we had been sitting.

“What is it Mr.Holmes, Is it ddsnag?!?” I asked.

Codlock broke his transfixed gaze with the distant object to look stupidly at my questioning face. While still pointing his finger at the object, Codlock grabbed me by the neck and directed my head toward his awkwardly cast tendril.

“Through the trees there Bunkson! Do you see it now?” Codlock questioned, sounding more than a little annoyed.

“I don’t know sir; all I see are those two large poles in the distance on the other side of the park.”

Codlock released my neck and was remarkably smoking his briar wood pipe again before I had realized.

“Precisely.” Codlock said, smiling through a mouthful of smoke. “Ole’ Glory is still a-waving Bunskon, no matter what those Communists try to do! Now, let’s get on with closing this gap! To Ole’ Glory!”

We were off before I knew it. We arrived just moments later panting and out of breath from the hurried journey.

“Look around Bunkson. Look around for a sedimentary nugget…”

“You still haven’t told me of why you’ve brought me here Mr. Holmes.”

“Indeed, I have not Bunkson. You see, my late friend Dr. Claybon and I attended Meharry Medical College together in Nashville, TN. Before that time my friend Festus had not left his home town of Sugarlock, Mississippi. He actually had arrived to the state of Tennessee by boxcar and I befriended him shortly thereafter. We would spend hours talking about medical school and I finally convinced him to talk to the administrative board at Meharry about attending medical college.”

“Wow, Codlock! I didn’t know you knew the man who this park was named after?” I uttered.

“For whom this park is named. Bunkson. You’re now in the company of a primarily socialite crowd; and yes, I would presume there’s a lot you do not yet know Bunkson. The benefactor who paid for Dr. Claybon’s college was none other than my dearest ole’ Auntie Rhonda. After I spoke with her about Festus, she told me she would pay for his schooling if he kept good grades. When Festus graduated in 1917, he went to visit Auntie Rhonda. On the day he was leaving out to see her she had gone on sabbatical to Europe of which she has never returned. When Auntie left, he decided to visit me in Chicago. On his way from Tennessee to Illinois is when he saw a sign on the highway that read, “Madisonville, Kentucky the Best Town on Earth” and instantly knew that this town is where he was meant to be. Festus and I stayed in contact throughout the years and he became a prominent physician in this area. In fact, his home was close to the first geocache location. He lived at the now-defunct 467 Hopewell Street which comprises the corner of Hopewell and Elm Street.”

“Is this what we’re looking for Sir?” I held a fissured dense object in Mr. Holmes’ general direction.

“Precisely my dear boy!” Codlock exclaimed! “Now, sign the log and don’t forget to keep a keen eye! One day there might be more of these curious cases to be found…”
